Functieomschrijving:
Als Firmware Engineer ben je verantwoordelijk voor het ontwerpen, ontwikkelen en testen van de firmware die draait op embedded systemen. Je werkt samen met hardware engineers en andere softwareontwikkelaars om op maat gemaakte oplossingen te creëren voor diverse projecten. Je zult firmware ontwikkelen die de interactie tussen hardware en software optimaliseert, en tegelijkertijd zorgen voor robuuste en betrouwbare prestaties.

Taken en verantwoordelijkheden:

• Ontwerpen, ontwikkelen en testen van firmware voor embedded systemen en microcontrollers.
• Integreren van firmware met hardware en andere softwarecomponenten.
• Optimaliseren van de prestaties en efficiëntie van de firmware.
• Debuggen en oplossen van technische problemen in samenwerking met het hardwareteam.
• Schrijven van gedetailleerde documentatie over de ontwikkelde firmware en systeemarchitectuur.
• Meedenken over nieuwe technische ontwikkelingen en verbeteringen voor producten en systemen.
• Bewaken van de kwaliteit en betrouwbaarheid van de firmware door grondige testing.

Functie-eisen:

• Afgeronde opleiding in de richting van Elektrotechniek, Embedded Systems, Informatica of een vergelijkbare studie (HBO/WO).
• Ervaring met het ontwikkelen van firmware in C/C++ voor embedded platforms.
• Kennis van microcontrollers (bijv. ARM, AVR, PIC) en real-time besturingssystemen (RTOS).
• Ervaring met communicatieprotocollen zoals SPI, I2C, UART en CAN.
• Vaardigheid in het gebruik van ontwikkeltools en debugging software.
• Ervaring met versiebeheertools zoals Git.
• In staat om zelfstandig en in teamverband te werken.
• Oog voor detail, probleemoplossend vermogen en de capaciteit om complexe technische vraagstukken aan te pakken.

As a Firmware Engineer you are responsible for designing, developing and testing the firmware that runs on embedded systems. You work together with hardware engineers and other software developers to create tailor-made solutions for various projects. You will develop firmware that optimizes the interaction between hardware and software, while ensuring robust and reliable performance.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• Design, develop and test firmware for embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Integrate firmware with hardware and other software components.
• Optimize the performance and efficiency of the firmware.
• Debug and solve technical problems in collaboration with the hardware team.
• Write detailed documentation about the developed firmware and system architecture.
• Thinking about new technical developments and improvements for products and systems.
• Monitoring the quality and reliability of the firmware through thorough testing.

Job requirements:

• Completed education in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Science or a comparable study (HBO/WO).
• Experience with developing firmware in C/C++ for embedded platforms.
• Knowledge of microcontrollers (e.g. ARM, AVR, PIC) and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
• Experience with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART and CAN.
• Skill in using development tools and debugging software.
• Experience with version control tools such as Git.
• Able to work independently and in a team.
• Attention to detail, problem-solving skills and the capacity to tackle complex technical issues.
